As the seasons change so should our skincare routine. The main goal of your skincare routine should be to accommodate the needs of your skin and these needs will change during each new season. With winter approaching, now is the best time to make sure that you have all the products you need to help your skin in the cooler months. Our skin becomes dull and dry in winter so it is essential to look after it with the best possible products.

1. Moisturiser

It can be argued that moisturiser is THE most important skincare product for the season of winter. The cold weather is very dehydrating for your skin which can cause it to become dry if you do not use moisturiser. If your skin is particularly dry, it is recommended that you use a moisturiser with a thicker formula for the best results. Even people with an oily skin type should still continue to use a moisturiser during the winter months as their skin is not immune to the effects of the weather.

2. Facial Exfoliator

Exfoliation helps replenish the skin, which is essential during cold weather when your skin is exposed to cold air and indoor heat. A facial exfoliator will help to renew the skin cells that have been affected by this weather exposure and leave you with brighter skin. Be sure not to exfoliate your skin too often but rather use the product semi-regularly for the best results.

3. Eye Cream

The area under our eyes does not contain oil glands, meaning it can become very sensitive and dry in winter. This is the thinnest area of our skin and should be replenished with the vitamins and other ingredients found within eye creams. Apply the eye cream using your ring finger as it will warm the product so that it melts into the skin.

4. Retinol

Retinol is a very strong ingredient that should only be worn at night. The winter months are the best time to introduce this ingredient into your skincare routine as your skin is exposed to less sun during this time. Make sure that you do a patch test of the retinol serum before applying the product to ensure that your skin reacts well to the ingredients.

5. Face Masks

The best kinds of face masks to use in winter are those that aim to hydrate and contain nourishing ingredients. They should not be applied too often but when used appropriately they can add a surge of moisture to the skin. Face masks come in all sorts of forms such as sheets and peel off masks so experiment to find which one you feel best using.

6. Facial Oil

Facial oils are the key to maintaining hydration in the skin as they contain a rich mixture of ingredients that are penetrated into the skin. The oil will help your skin hold in moisture better which ultimately allows you to gain the best results from your moisturiser. Why not throw in some skincare tools and enhance your winter skincare routine with a facial massage. The facial oil provides slip on the skin so that blood flow circulation improves while using the tools.
